Antonio Conte's hair procedures
Antonio Conte had many hair transplant procedures in his life. He started with FUT in the late 1990s in his home Italy. This technique is now outdated, and surgeons do not use it anymore because of its poor results.
The procedure involves cutting strips of flesh from the patient’s donor area. In all hair transplant techniques, the surgeon harvests the grafts at the back of the head, where the hair is genetically resistant to androgen. Then the surgeon cut the strip of flesh to get grafts of one or two hair follicles and implanted them into the scalp in tiny incisions.
First, the FUT technique lets many visible scars as the procedure is very invasive. The risk of infections or complications was also high. The grafts also have a poor survival rate compared to modern techniques. Finally, the result was often unnatural as the surgeon could not implant the grafts at the right angle.
However, as the FUT technique did not offer good results, Antonio Conte kept losing his hair and traveled to Canada to get his hair back with an FUE hair transplant.
Even with a good technique, many men keep losing their hair as a hair transplant does not stop the androgen action on the hair; it hides the bald spots.
FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. It is the preferred technique nowadays, and most clinics offer it as their standard procedure to get rid of baldness. Unlike FUT, during an FUE transplant, the surgeon does not cut strips of skin but extracts the grafts one by one and lets them sit in a solution while opening tiny incisions to implant them into the scalp. This difference makes the FUE procedure far less invasive than FUT. There is no visible scar, and the risk of complication is shallow.
A few years later, Antonio Conte underwent another FUE transplant in the same Canadian clinic because his hair had kept falling.
